Concord Dire Dept. holding bass fishing tournament to buy new rescue boat

A local fire chief is hoping you can help them be able to respond to an increase of calls on the water.

Currently, they don't have enough equipment.

The Concord Appomattox Swift Water team or CAST has responded to 30 calls for people needing help on the water this year so far.

Last year, the total number of calls was 20.

Now, the department is down one boat.

Concord Volunteer Fire Department Chief Jerame Edwards says one of their boats was damaged during a rescue last year so now they only have one left.

They are hosting a fishing tournament at Smith Mountain Lake next month to raise money to buy a new boat.
