VDH Update: Coronavirus Cases in Virginia Jump to Nearly 16,000

The Virginia Department of Health reports 15,846 cases of coronavirus/COVID-19 in the state as of Thursday, April 30. That's an increase of 885 from the previous day, which is the highest single day total yet.

VDH reports a total of 552 coronavirus deaths, up 30 from the previous day.

Last Thursday, Virginia's case total stood at 10,998, for an increase of 4,848 this week.

The Virginia Hospital and Healthcare Association dashboard shows 967 patients currently hospitalized with confirmed cases of COVID-19, while another 583 are hospitalized pending testing confirmation. 372 COVID-19 patients are currently being treated in an ICU, with 208 of those on a ventilator.

The VHHA says 2,104 patients hospitalized for COVID-19 have been discharged.

Virginia still has more than 5,000 hospital beds available.

VDH currently breaks down case and death data by locality, but later this week data will be broken down by zip code to give a more precise indication of spread.
