Virginia Sees Increase of More Than 1,000 Coronavirus Cases in One Day

RICHMOND, Va. (WSET) -- The Virginia Department of Health is reporting a total of 16,901 COVID-19 cases in the state; 16,109 are confirmed and 792 are probable in their latest numbers released Friday, May 1. That is a jump in 1,055 cases reported since Thursday.

The death toll has risen from 552 to 581, an increase of 29.

The Virginia Hospital and Healthcare Association dashboard on Friday reports that there are 963 confirmed positive COVID-19 patients currently hospitalized in Virginia and 468 patients are hospitalized waiting for their test results. Of those numbers, 366 patients are in the ICU, and 193 patients are on a ventilator.

The VHHA reports that 2,196 COVID-19 patients have been hospitalized and discharged.
