Cases of Coronavirus Rise to 22,342; Gov. to Announce Reopening Phase I

RICHMOND, Va. (WSET) -- The new numbers released by the Virginia Department of Health Friday show an increase of 772 cases from Thursday.

The VDH is reporting a total of 22,342 COVID-19 cases in the state; 21,274 are confirmed and 1,068 are probable.

The number of deaths reported is 812, up 43 from Thursday.

The Virginia Hospital and Healthcare Association dashboard on Friday reports that there are 1,076 confirmed positive COVID-19 patients currently hospitalized in Virginia and 549 patients are hospitalized waiting for their test results. Of those numbers, 378 patients are in the ICU, and 199 patients are on a ventilator.

The VHHA reports that 2,997 COVID-19 patients have been hospitalized and discharged.

Gov. Ralph Northam will hold a press conference at 2 p.m. to update the state on how the coronavirus is impacting Virginia.

He is expected to detail the first phase of the gradual approach to safely allowing restricted operations for businesses and limited gatherings.
