Over 25,000 Coronavirus Cases in Va. as State Prepares for Phase I Openings

RICHMOND, Va. (WSET) -- The new numbers released by the Virginia Department of Health Monday, May 11 show an increase of 989 cases from Sunday.

The VDH is reporting a total of 25,070 COVID-19 cases in the state; 23,889 are confirmed and 1,181 are probable.

The number of deaths reported is 850, an increase of 11 from Sunday.

The Virginia Hospital and Healthcare Association dashboard on Monday reports that there are 1,072 confirmed positive COVID-19 patients currently hospitalized in Virginia and 432 patients are hospitalized waiting for their test results.

Of those numbers, 362 patients are in the ICU, and 194 patients are on a ventilator.

The VHHA reports that 3,273 COVID-19 patients have been hospitalized and discharged.

Friday, Gov. Northam detailed phase one of his phased plan to reopen Virginia. An update is scheduled for Monday, May 11 at 2:00 pm on the Governor's Facebook Page.
