Heavy Rain Causes Several Area Roads to Close Due to Flooding, Downed Trees

Heavy rain in the area has closed several roads due to flooding, downed trees and mudslides.

In Bedford County, a propane truck was involved in an accident after a road washed away due to flooding. The driver was not injured.

Roads affected in Roanoke County include:

  • John Richardson Rd from Buckley Dr to Hollins Rd is closed due to flooding.
  • Glade Creek Rd is closed due to flooding.
  • Summer View Dr from Shadwell Dr to Williamson Rd is closed due to flooding.

In Bedford County:

  • Beale Trail Rd from W Lynchburg Salem Tpke to Goose Creek Valley Rd is closed due to flooding.
  • Sheep Creek Rd from Murrells Gap Rd to Jay Bird Ln is closed due to flooding.
  • Buffalo Run at Irving Rd is closed due to flooding.
  • Foster Rd from Longview Rd, Oakridge Dr, Quarles Rd, Rolling Meadow Dr, Sliding S Dr to Nester Rd is closed due to flooding.
  • Rt. 681 N at Magnolia Dr is closed due to a tree down.
  • Simmons Mill Rd from Saunders Rd to Saunders Grove Dr is closed due to flooding.
  • Thaxton Mountain Rd from Union Church Rd to Rocky Ford Rd is closed due to flooding.
  • Three Otters Rd from a dead end to Peaks Rd is closed due to flooding.
  • Kelso Mill Rd from Peaks Rd to Forbes Mill Rd is closed due to flooding.
  • Crosscreek Rd from Lizard Ridge Rd to dead end is closed due to flooding.
  • Lankford Mill Rd from Lizard Ridge Rd to Lazenbury Rd is closed due to flooding.
  • Bells Mill Rd from E Lynchburg Salem Tpke to Goode Rd is closed due to flooding.
  • St Helena Rd from Otter Hill Rd to Wyatts Way is closed due to flooding.
  • Montvale St at the intersection of Wilkerson Mill is closed due to a mudslide.

In addition, all lanes of Va 40 near Route 917 in Pittsylvania County were closed Wednesday, June 17 around 11 a.m. due to an overturned tanker truck.
