Roanoke High School Student Dead, 4 Wounded in Downtown Blacksburg Shooting

Update: The person who died is said to be a student at Patrick Henry High School in Roanoke.

"We are saddened by the death of a member of our Patrick Henry High School family," Roanoke City Public Schools said in a statement. 

Virginia Tech said the family of an injured Tech student says their son is out of surgery, recovering, and seems to be doing well.

BLACKSBURG, Va. (WSET) — One person is dead and four are hospitalized after a shooting in Downtown Blacksburg late Friday night.

According to Blacksburg police, gunshots were reported at the Melody Hookah Lounge in the 100 block of N. Main Street around 11:53 p.m.

Police said four people were taken to local hospitals with injuries from the shooting. A fifth person has died.

Among those hospitalized is a student at Virginia Tech, according to VT President Tim Sands.

Blacksburg police are now investigating the shooting as a homicide and said the situation is "complex" and "ongoing."
