They are one of the most preferred breakfast options, because you can easily grab one on your way to school or office. Remember that a doughnut is loaded with refined sugars, trans fats, hydrogenated oil, and processed white flour, which spikes sugar levels in the body and provides no nutritional benefits.
An average hot dog contains almost 130 to 140 calories, and up to 80% of those calories are unhealthy fats. Also, the addition of various sauces and toppings makes it the perfect disaster recipe for the heart. The processed meats and toppings used in hot dogs have been linked to various heart diseases and colon cancer.
Bright Sugary Cereal
Though kids and adults love them, these cereals aren't a healthy choice for breakfast. The FDA has noted that the food colors used in these cereals contribute to hyperactivity in kids. They are also packed with artificial sweeteners and flavors, which can cause obesity. If you prefer eating cereals for breakfast, try those which are high in fiber and low in sugar.
Food items such as Danish pastries, cinnamon rolls, strudels, and toaster pastries are high in calories and fats. Moreover, the excess frosting and glaze makes them even more fattening. Also, most bakers use highly processed white flour, which further adds empty calories. This spikes up the sugar levels, and provides the body with an initial burst of energy, which is likely to disappear in a few hours.
Milk is loaded with saturated fats that elevate cholesterol levels, cause inflammation, and in severe cases, contribute to clogged arteries. For those who can't do without their glass of milk, it is advised to switch to skim milk. This low-fat version of milk is free from the fat, and only contains calcium, potassium, vitamin D, and protein.
Pancakes are a popular breakfast food, and nowadays the easy-to-make mixtures available in stores makes it even more convenient. You just mix the powder with water, and then pour it on a hot griddle or pan. Pancakes are rich in carbohydrates that surely fill the stomach, but again, these are empty calories which makes you hungry sooner. Plus the choice of toppings, like maple syrup, powdered sugar, and bacon, makes it even more fattening and unhealthy.
Avoid starchy white and flavored bagels, like onion, garlic, and poppy seed, as they are made from refined wheat flour that contains no nutrients and fiber. Most bagels already contain high amounts of sugar, and then there is the slathering of cream cheese and butter which adds in more calories and saturated fats, elevating the sugar and insulin levels in the body.
Getting breakfast ready and eating it can be chaotic and time-consuming, hence, buying breakfast on the way to work or school seems like the best option. Most of us, especially kids, would enjoy this, but every time you halt at a fast food joint, you consume items that are basically high in saturated fats, sodium, and artificial sugars. The excess sodium can cause a sudden rise in the blood pressure, and it may also increase the chances of a stroke in people suffering from hypertension.
The best breakfast foods give you the required energy to survive through the day. They boost metabolism, control weight gain, and keep diseases at bay. On the other hand, the worst breakfast foods are extremely high in saturated fats and sugars, which puts the body at risk to many diseases.
