Was Ryan Seacrest’s matchmaking attempt a success?
The On Air with Ryan Seacrest host secretly arranged for Tanya to go on a dinner date on Wednesday night with pro snowboarder Nick Baumgartner, who she met over the weekend … and who never called her after she gave him her number.
The two – along with Nelson, Sierra, and Patty in tow and Sadao filming it all – dined at George’s Greek Cafe in Long Beach. Although the al fresco setting screamed romance, did it have the same effect on Tanya and Nick?
Watch the teaser clip below … and come back to see the full date!
Until then, listen to what happened when Nick called in to the show on Thursday morning:
On Wednesday night, things got off to an odd start when Nick, who is training for the Olympics, arrived on a Segway (and very casually dressed).
Then Tanya asked him a simple enough question: “What’s my name?”
“I didn’t even know your last name was Rad,” responded Nick. “You have like the coolest name in the world. Do you know that my favorite movie is Rad from 1986?”
The topic got a bit more serious when they chatted about children. Nick, who already has a son, revealed that he’d be open to more with the right person “as long as my boy is ok with it” – which everyone agreed was a very sweet thing to say.
Although Tanya thinks Nick is a great guy, he’s just not the guy for her, she explained on the show Thursday morning. “He likes doing dangerous things and I like to happy hour and go to bed at 10 p.m.”
While all this was going on at George’s, Patty was updating Ryan with the play-by-play. After ordering a bottle of wine, at 8:44 p.m., Patty relayed that Nick had “just compared her to a 50-year-old woman, Elisabeth Shue,” which Ryan says is a compliment.
At 8:53, Nelson up and left. “You know what, it was just … I had to go,” he explained on Thursday morning.
A little more than a half-hour later, Patty emailed Ryan that Tanya and Nick “did not go to first base.”
Nick called in to the show on Thursday morning to share his side of things. “You are a great sport and a really nice guy,” Ryan told him.
“It was a very good experience and I had a blast,” he replied. “She’s definitely beautiful.” But he added, “I don’t know if you know her completely. In the beginning of the conversation, she informed me that she hates dangerous things and she hates the snow.”
Still, Nick insisted he had a great time, but “in the long run, I don’t think it would 100 percent work out.” So, in the end, both Tanya and Nick agreed to be friends.
Do you think they should go on another date? Or just remain friends?
